Steve Miller

Steve joined Kirkpatrick & Goldsborough, in April 2008 to provide estate planning and probate services to existing and new clients for the firm. Prior to joining the firm, Steve practiced for six years as a solo-practitioner in Woodstock, Vermont, where he focused exclusively on estate planning.

In providing estate planning, Steve drafts Wills, Revocable Trusts, Special Needs Trusts, Insurance Trusts, Power of Attorney Designations, Healthcare Directives and other documents necessary to plan for both large and small estates. Steve’s estate planning practice is client-focused. Whether providing multigenerational trust and tax advice, selecting the best guardian for a minor child, or helping clients consider options for the division of personal or cherished items, Steve works with clients to understand the implications of their choices. Steve is sensitive to the potential for conflict between family members after the death of a loved one and works with the client to minimize this result by anticipating areas of potential disagreement and incorporating solutions into the estate plan. Steve also advises clients on trust and estate administration.

In addition to his estate planning and trust and estate administration practice, Steve also practices before the probate courts of the State of Vermont. Steve regularly accepts court-appointed guardianship cases for the Chittenden County Probate Court and is accustomed to dealing with the sometimes contentious disputes that arise and require settlement through negotiation or intervention by the Court.

When Steve is not practicing law, he uses his background in Psychology to work as mental health crisis clinician for the Howard Center. Steve also teaches legal education courses to inmates through the Vermont Department of Corrections.
